Six Sigma application for quality improvement of the hot press in process

Six Sigma is a systematic improvement method, management approach designed to continuously improve corporate business processes and achieve customer requirement. This paper presents case study conducted at cell phone manufacturing company that intended use the DMAIC method carry out structured projects with fewer defective units generated by hot press in process. In this process, Boss cracking torque force failure led high scrap costs line downtime, which ultimately affected supply of assembly line. To end, was applied starting problem being defined, measured, exhaustively analyzed determine root cause: poor injection molding structure, metal insert not perpendicular hole, improperly set machine parameters, core/cavity dimension variation. A series measures addressing these factors increased quality level process improving mold design increase venting, optimizing product structure add guide chamfer, developing standardized parameter setup procedure. Methods maintain control were also identified implemented. The several tools methods made more consistent.
